It's working out so far. We've had friends who let us stay at their place and have a guest suite in a friend's condo that will be cheap to stay in while the floors dry out.

Ugh not good.  I believe Previous owners, (of cars, houses, pets, anything really) should pay for their mistakes made during their term of ownership.  Karmically at least.

Just because you know where your water shut-off valve is doesn't mean you can actually use it. We ended up having to call the city, because we have the old style shut-off valve. Look how fun it is to turn off!

Have Seattle Public Utilities install a shut-off valve so you don't have to call them every time your house starts to flood.

We had to cut into the ceiling to diagnose the problem. Tons and tons of debris.

The plumber kept having to cut holes in the ceiling to figure out where the busted pipes go.

Here's a picture of the offending pipe as it stands in our bathroom. In the big hole in our wall in the bathroom. That hole is behind a mirror now. We should probably get it fixed, what with last year's rat problem.
